Closed cell foam has a higher R-value than open cell foam, usually about 6.0 per inch. But some closed cell foams, like Tiger Foam's E84 Closed Cell formula, have even higher ratings that go up to almost 7 per inch. This higher rating makes closed cell foam better at keeping heat in or out of a structure.

In a house with little insulation, the escaping heat dries out the walls. Spray foam, as a plastic, is hydrophobic, so it air seals if applied perfectly. But if there are any pathways, cracks or voids, humid air can sneak in and hit the cold exterior framing, condensing into water.

Thermal Performance and R-value R-values for spray foam insulation range from 3.5 to 7 per inch of thickness, and some spray polyurethane foams provide the same energy savings in half the amount of space that may be typically required.

Spray foam insulation has an estimated life expectancy that varies from 80 up to 100 years. And that can be achieved with little to no maintenance at all. The material is strong and it can last for as long as your building can. Different from cellulose and fiberglass, spray foam does not deteriorate, sag, or settle.
