There is a wide range of options for 3D printers suitable for beginners, but it can be overwhelming to navigate the setup, printing and finishing process. Thankfully, It's a big hobby, with a devoted fan base that's quick to offer advice if needed. But be warned: There is a steep learning curve.

Standard resin has high tensile strength but is very brittle (very low elongation at break), so it is not suitable for functional parts. The ability to create fine features makes it ideal though for visual prototypes and art models.

Why didn't home 3D printing ever live up to the hype? Because, for one thing, the technology just isn't there yet. Even high-end 3D printers are crude, temperamental, difficult to operate, and extremely frustrating. They require a hobbyist mindset with considerable technical skill and a very high frustration index.
