In an exclusive interview with Mashed, the ice cream brand's founder, Jeni Britton, explained why you'll never find her flavors on a dollar menu. "It's made with beautiful grass-pastured milk and incredible ingredients. Of course, we pay our farmers, makers, and growers, whether they're in Ohio or elsewhere.

We build ice creams completely from scratch using a unique recipe honed and perfected over more than 20 years by our founder, Jeni Britton. Our ice creams have a uniquely smooth texture and buttercream body, with bright flavor and clean finish.

The alcohol in any of our flavors tops out at about 0.5% or less per volume, which is a miniscule, trace amount. The alcohol from any beer, wine, and spirit we use to make a flavor is not burned off during production.

Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams officially opened in late November 2002, in the North Market, a centuries-old public market in Columbus, Ohio. For years, Jeni worked the counter, tweaking her recipes, and scooping for long lines of customers.
