CD sales are on the rise again, and for good reason. In fact, there are a lot of good reasons. It's 2024 and streaming makes up more than 84 percent of the music industry. But there's still a lot of love for physical audio formats.

Even when CDs became popular during the 1990s, people in English-speaking countries still continued using the term "record shop" to describe a shop selling sound recordings. With the vinyl revival of the 21st century, often generating more income than CDs, the name is again accurate.

Today is the second of the 2020 Record Store Day drops, so no better day to highlight a small business owner, Amy the co-owner of Spoonful Records in Columbus Ohio. Brett and Amy met at the Columbus Museum of Art and opened the store in 2010.

Most large corporate record stores like Tower Records, Camelot Music, Sam Goody, and others either closed most of their stores or went completely out of business in the 1990s and early 2000s. This left only the small, independently owned record stores to carry the vinyl torch.
