Sometimes, your dermatologist may recommend cyst excision (removal) to make sure it is not cancer. The cyst excision procedure involves making a cut around the cyst and removing the sac, complete with its walls and contents. Your dermatologist will then clean the wound and close it with stitches.

Dermatologists are all trained in basic dermatologic surgery. Some dermatologists undergo additional training in advanced dermatologic surgery procedures.

Other dermatologic procedures are used to remove or treat benign or cancerous skin lesions. Cryotherapy, curettage, cyst excision, electrodesiccation, phototherapy, and skin tag removal are examples of the types of methods physicians use to destruct, remove, or treat skin for a wide variety of diseases and conditions.
