The gar is an extremely hardy fish and it can survive conditions of low, stagnant water that often prove fatal for other species. It has made its home in many of our local lakes and rivers, including the Potomac. Midday is the best time to catch a gar, and the fish have been known to bite hard during big heatwaves.
