While Mount Kenya is a challenging and physically demanding climb, it is possible for beginner-level hikers to successfully summit the mountain. However, most are only able to conquer the central peaks. The final peak requires some technical climbs.

It is also the tallest freestanding mountain in the world. On the other hand, Mount Kenya has three main peaks, with the highest, Batian, standing at 5,199 meters. Kilimanjaro is often considered to be a less technical climb compared to Mount Kenya.

Best times for climbing Mount Kenya from any of the trekking routes are January to March and June to October but it can be climbed year-round. The rainy seasons typically occur in April, May and November. However, with the onset of climate change they have been difficult to predict in recent years.

Absolutely amazing hike! We did a 4 day trip, the Naro Moru route up, summited point Lenana early in the morning on the third day, and did the Chogoria route down with the last night camping at Lake Ellis. Had some incredible views from the summit and along the way, would highly recommend.
