It was from there that William 'Goat' Sianis put the Curse on the Chicago Cubs. In 1964 the Billy Goat Tavern moved to Michigan Avenue. It was the inspiration for a Saturday Night Live skit, is frequented by reporters and has become an Historic Chicago Tourist Landmark with its famous 'cheezborgers.

Made popular by the SNL; the Billy Goat Tavern serves up no nonsense fare: Burgers, cheeseburgers, no fries, just chips – and definitely no Pepsi, just Coke.

The bar side is typically crowded and lively with a neighborhood pub atmosphere and sports on TV, while the other dining room is much quieter. In any case, all the food is ordered at the counter, while the bar has full liquor and beer service, including the house signature draughts, Billy Goat Golden or Dark.

The first location, at 1855 W. Madison St., was opened in 1934 when William "Billy Goat" Sianis bought the Lincoln Tavern, near Chicago Stadium, for $205 with a bounced check (the proceeds from the first weekend they were open were used to fulfill the payment).
