Roman blinds are made of one solid sheet of fabric that folds up in pleats; Venetian blinds are constructed of narrow horizontal slats. Roman blind fabrics are often very elaborate and decorative, whilst Venetian blinds are minimalistic, and made of totally different materials.

There are no hard and fast rules but from a practical perspective, curtains work better for warmth and added texture, and blinds work well when space is tight. We usually say curtains are good for living rooms and bedrooms, blinds are good for kitchens and bathrooms.

If you are looking to control privacy in the rooms of your home, Venetian blinds may be the best option for you, since you can tilt the slats to suit your needs. Alternatively, if you want to allow the maximum amount of light in, as well as a refreshing breeze in summer, vertical blinds are a better bet.

It is best not to mix too many different styles of blinds for every window. For example, if you are planning Roman blinds with sheer Rollers, it is best not to choose venetian blinds for a similar window. If you choose one style of the blinds for the windows, keep the same pattern and colour within one room.
