Sometimes the hotel site is cheaper, sometimes Booking is. Sometimes the hotel will match a lower Booking rate. If it is a lot of money and the hotel wants payment up front whereas Booking doesn't ask for payment till arrival -- that could be a difference maker. Cancellation policies can also make a difference.

No legitimate transaction (e.g. payments, reservation changes) with Booking.com will ever require you to pay with gift cards or to share your credit card details by phone, text message, or email.

The guest can cancel free of charge until 1 day before arrival. The guest will be charged the first night if they cancel within 1 day before arrival. If the guests do not turn up for the reservation, then they are charged for the price of 1 night as the no show penalty (same as the cancellation fee).

Booking.com commission rate varies between 10% to 25% depending on the location of your property and your cancellation policy. On average, it is about 15%.
