American Eagle Outfitters owns its namesake brand and the Aerie nameplate. Aerie has been a strong growth story for several years. The much larger American Eagle brand has been working on a turnaround.

It's also become more popular thanks to its sister brands, Offline and Aerie, which sell intimates and activewear, respectively. But like so many other retailers, American Eagle is now shuttering brick-and-mortar locations, with a few closures planned and more on the horizon.

It was in 2014 though that the first real Aerie campaign was made. Jay Schottenstein played a major role in creating Aerie. Present-day Aerie sells loungewear and pajamas and they only sell female clothes, unlike American Eagle which sells male and female clothing. Aerie has definitely grown a lot since 2006.
