Schezwan sauce is a popular Indo-Chinese condiment made with red chilies, garlic, soya sauce, vinegar and Sichuan peppers. Also known as Schezwan Chutney, it gets the name from the use of Sichuan peppers in the preparation of this sauce.

Though both seem the same, there are a few differences between the two. Firstly, Schezwan Chutney is thick, coarse, and spicy while Schezwan Sauce is thin, smooth, and sour besides being spicy. While Schezwan Chutney has a dark red colour with a thick consistency, Schezwan Sauce is light red with a liquid texture.

If it is made with fresh ingredients such as garlic, ginger, chillies and other spices, it can be a healthy addition to your diet. However, if it is made with processed ingredients such as MSG, artificial flavors, preservatives and other unhealthy additives, it can be unhealthy.
