Born in KwaZulu-Natal, Robert Brooks matriculated form Dundee High School. He completed his professional studies in Europe, first at the Salzburg Mozarteum and later the University for Music and Dramatic Art in Vienna. In 1986, he won first prize in the International Lieder Competition held by the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde in Vienna. Robert has since been active as a singer mainly in Europe, performing works ranging from German Lieder and opera to contemporary music. International performances include Salzburg Festival, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Wiener Festwochen, Wein Modern, Andras Schiff's Festival in Mondsee and many others. Orchestral performances include the Vienna Philharmonic, Orchestra National du Paris and the Tonhalle Orchester Zurich, singing under the baton of conductors such as Herbert von Karajan, Yehudi Menuhin, Charles Dutiot and Nikolaus Harnoncourt. Robert as sung in many of the great theaters, including the Vienna State Opera and La Scala Milano.
