We recently appealed a case dismissed by the Wayne County Circuit Court. H. Joel Newman represented a pastor who retired and lent his life savings to his son, who was also a minister, to purchase a building for a new church. Unfortunately the son passed away. His brother took over as minister of the church and refused to pay back the loan. Our appeal was successful. We received a Court of Appeals opinion reversing the lower court and ordering a judgment of more than $1.3 million.
