Tegucigalpa is Honduras' largest and most populous city as well as the nation's political and administrative center. Tegucigalpa is host to 25 foreign embassies and 16 consulates.

A temple for Tegucigalpa, Honduras, was announced via letters to local Church leaders in the temple district on June 9, 2006. A groundbreaking ceremony was held for the temple on June 9, 2007. Elder Spencer V. Jones — a General Authority Seventy and president of the Central America Area — presided over the event.

President Russell M. Nelson announced a temple for San Pedro Sula, Honduras, on April 7, 2019, during April 2019 general conference. The San Pedro Sula Honduras Temple groundbreaking ceremony was held on Sept. 5, 2020, with Elder José Bernardo Hernández, an Area Seventy, presiding.

A series of six maps created and updated by the Church News shows the location and status of each of the 335 temples of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The maps and temple information are current as of March 31, 2024. To date, the 335 houses of the Lord comprise: 189 dedicated temples.
