The Michael J. Fox Foundation (MJFF) is leading the charge toward a world without Parkinson's disease (PD). Since our Foundation's inception, we have operated with one single-minded goal: putting ourselves out of business by finding the cure for Parkinson's.

Most people with PD start having movement symptoms between ages 50 and 85, although some people have shown signs earlier. Up to 80% of people with PD eventually develop dementia. The average time from onset of movement problems to the development of dementia is about 10 years.

The three “cardinal” movement, or motor, symptoms are slowness of movement (bradykinesia), stiffness (rigidity) and resting tremor. Not everyone has all three symptoms and not everyone with Parkinson's has tremor. Some people also have walking problems or difficulty with balance and coordination.
