Intelsat was originally formed as the International Telecommunications Satellite Organization (INTELSAT). From 1964 to 2001 it was an intergovernmental conglomerate that owned and managed a group of communication satellites that provided international broadcast services.

We are a joint stock company (société anonyme) incorporated under the laws of Luxembourg in July 2011. Our predecessors have been in the FSS business since 1964. We have historically conducted our business through Intelsat Global S.A. and its subsidiaries and, prior to that, Intelsat Holdings, Ltd.

The administrative headquarters is in Washington, DC and other Intelsat corporation offices are also located there.
